Office 2016 For Mac High Sierra

Office 2016 For Mac High Sierra

PSA: Office for Mac 2016 has macOS High Sierra Issues, 2011 May Not Work Take note, Office for Mac users, Office 2011 isn’t supported in macOS High Sierra and Office 2016 looks sketchy, too. Not an explanation, but Office 2011 for Mac (any version) is contraindicated for High Sierra usage because Microsoft never tested it against High Sierra. You will need Office 2016 for Mac 15.35 or later for High Sierra compatibility.

ISSUE: A recent software update for Microsoft Office on Mac computers can prevent Outlook from working properly. If your Mac is running macOS High Sierra and you install update 16.12 for Outlook 2016, then Outlook will repeatedly (every 30 seconds or so) prompt for your email password.

RESOLUTION:

Since individual updates for Office on Mac cannot be uninstalled, the workaround for affected systems entails backing up certain files*, removing Microsoft Office, then reinstalling Office. Remember that you can still always access email via the Outlook Web App, https://owa.eku.edu.

To determine whether your Mac is susceptible to the issue described above, try the following steps:

  • First, check the macOS version of your computer.
  • Second, check the version of Office on your computer.
  • Third, choose Manual Updates so you can skip this version of Outlook until a fix is published.

Fourth, if you already have the update and this issue is presenting itself, or if you just have other questions or concerns, please contact the IT Service Desk at 859-622-3000.

* Anyone using local folders in Outlook for Mac (email saved directly to the computer so that it does not count toward email quota) should contact the IT Service Desk.
