How To Improve PC Performance | Tweaks Guide

[NOTE: These tweaks may not work for you, but they should all be safe to test and attempt. If you’ve got tweaks of your own, or found something we missed, let us know in the comments section!]

Basic Tips

Before diving into the more complicated methods to squeeze extra life in your game, there are a few simple tweaks you can try.

  • Run the game in Fullscreen.
  • Set the game to match your native resolution.
  • Under Advanced Graphics Settings, don’t increase any settings above High.
    • The most taxing system performance settings are: Physics, Shadows, Textures, Vegetation Detail, and Vegetation Draw Distance.

Try lowering some or all of these settings first if your game is running poorly. Test them all out — you can also choose to show an FPS counter in Settings, making it easier to benchmark performance while playing around with the settings to see what’s best for you.

How To Fix FPS Drops in Cutscenes

Commands

Strangely, there is a bug in the current version of Kingdom Come that switches the game to borderless windowed mode instead of fullscreen. This is especially prevalent in cutscenes, and instantly causes huge FPS drops.

  • Press Alt+Enter when in a cutscene if the FPS has dropped to switch back to fullscreen.

Fullscreen offers a more stable experience all-around. Playing in windowed mode is not advised right now. You can change fullscreen in the normal Settings menu from the pause screen.

Disable VSYNC & Limit Framerate

Vsync is on by default, but it can be disabled in the config file. Likely, this feature will be patched in the future, but for now, you can disable it manually.

  • Find your Kingdom Come: Deliverance installation folder.
    • EX. C:Program Files (x86)SteamsteamappscommonKingdomComeDeliverance
  • Create a .txt file and name it user.cfg
    • This will create a config file in the KingdomComeDeliverance folder.
  • Copy/paste r_vsync=0 into the file and save.
    • To limit framerate, add sys_maxfps=60 to the file. The number can be changed to any framerate you want.

Save the file and you’ll find vsync disabled in-game.

Improve RAM Usage

A similar problem occurred in Skyrim — the program just wasn’t using all the RAM your computer has available. To fix that, you’ll need to set the heapsize for the amount of RAM your computer has available in the Steam Launch Options.

  • Right-Click on Kingdom Come: Deliverance in your Steam Library and find ‘Set Launch Options‘. Copy/paste the heapsize command for the amount of RAM.
    • 4GB: “-heapsize 524288”
    • 8GB: “-heapsize 1048576”
    • 12GB: “-heapsize 1572864”
    • 16GB: “-heapsize 2097152”
    • 24GB: “-heapsize 3145728”
    • 32GB: “-heapsize 4194304”
    • 64GB: “-heapsize 8388608”

NVIDIA SLI Fix

To improve compatibility with Nvidia SLI cards, use Nvidia Inspector. Download and install, and you can force SLI and overclocking onto programs that don’t naturally support this feature.

  • Set SLI Compatibility to 0x080040F5 (Ryse: Son of Rome, Evolve, Monster Hunter Online Benchmark, etc)

Try forcing NVIDIA Predefined number of GPUs to use on SLI rendering — make sure it is set to two. You should also set SLI mode in DirectX 10 to force AFR2.

How To Increase FPS In Kingdom Come: Deliverance

General Tips

First, the most significant changes in graphics happens when you change from “minimum” to “medium” settings. Further increase won’t lead to major changes in general. So, if your hardware isn’t hi-end, medium-high settings should be your best choice.

Kingdom Come Deliverance Console Commands Fps Command

Game should be launched in Full screen mode (not windowed or borderless), don’t forget to check this in the settings.

RAM Allocation

Seems that this game really struggles with RAM allocation. If you have 16 or more GB, use the command “-heapsize 2097152” in launch options. If you have 8 GB use “-heapsize 1048576”. This will allocate ram to be used as a cache for the game. Also, don’t set a cache that’s bigger than about an 1/8th of your overall ram, it’ll likely lower FPS rather than increase it.

For other amount of RAM:
4 GB -heapsize 524288
12 GB -heapsize 1572864
24 GB -heapsize 3145728
32 GB -heapsize 4194304

Disabling V-sync

Should fix the micro-stutter, freezes and frame drops.

1. Go to your steam library install directory
(e.g. C:Program Files (x86)SteamsteamappscommonKingdomComeDeliverance)

2. Create a new user.txt document in this folder

3. Write r_VSync = 0

3a. Also you can add a line sys_MaxFPS = 60 *60 is amount of max FPS. You can choose 120 or 144 for higher rate monitors or any different values. This should help with screen tearing since we have disabled V-sync. Try different values to achieve optimum picture for your setup. (*)

4. Save the changes, close the file. Rename user.txt to user.cfg

(*) Also you can test different maxFPS values faster by typing the sys_MaxFPS ## (## is 60 or other FPS value) in the in-game console. You can open the console pressing the “~” button on keyboard. But keep in mind, when you close the game, all changes you made will be lost. Don’t forget to set maxFPS in user.cfg file after you find optimum value.
