Introduction


Oracle has been a leading provider of database technology on Microsoft Windows platforms since 1994. Oracle Database offers unprecedented ease of use, manageability, ease of development, scalability, availability and security on Windows, which can be leveraged by small & medium businesses as well as enterprises. Oracle Database provides seamless integration with Windows platforms, services and development environment, enabling customers to take full advantage of both Microsoft and Oracle technologies.
In this Statement of Direction, Oracle Corporation provides a road map for Oracle Database 11g Release 2 running on Microsoft's newest operating systems: Windows 7 and Microsoft Windows Server 2008 R2. This road map does not relate to Oracle Database 11g Release 2's planned support for any other Windows platform. Also note that Oracle (like with every release on Windows) does not certify against individual Service Packs. Oracle certifies against OS releases, and Service Packs are supported as being part of the OS.


Oracle Database Support for Microsoft Windows 7 and Microsoft Windows Server 2008 R2

Oracle Database 11g Release 2 is supported on the following Windows 7 editions:

  • Windows 7 Professional (32-bit and x64)
  • Windows 7 Enterprise (32-bit and x64)
  • Windows 7 Ultimate (32-bit and x64)

Oracle Database Express Edition 11g Release 2 For Mac Os

Oracle Database 11g Release 2 is supported on the following Windows Server 2008 R2 editions:

Oracle Database Express Edition 11g Release 2 For Mac
  • Windows Web Server 2008 (x64)
  • Windows Server 2008 Foundation (x64)
  • Windows Server 2008 Standard (x64)
  • Windows Server 2008 Enterprise (x64)
  • Windows Server 2008 Datacenter (x64)

All Oracle Database 11g Release 2 editions (Enterprise, Standard, Standard One, Personal, Client) are supported on the above operating system editions. 64-bit Oracle software is certified on Windows x64 operating systems. 32-bit Oracle software is certified on 32-bit Windows operating systems. 32-bit Oracle Database clients are supported on Windows x64.
There is no planned support for Windows Server 2008 R2 Server Core at this time. Support of Windows Server 2008 for Itanium based systems is also yet to be determined.

Real Application Cluster:

RAC is not supported on Windows 7 or any 32 bit Windows in 11.2.0.x.x

RAC is only supported with x64. Oracle only Certifies using Oracle Clusterware for RAC installs.

Windows Itanium is not supported in this version.
